“Taking photographs…It is a way of shouting, of freeing oneself, not of proving or asserting one’s own originality. It is a way of life.”
– Henri Cartier-Bresson
Arts and Craft Photography was created in response to the above quote by Henri Cartier Bresson (one of the fathers of photo journalistic style photography).
The wedding and portrait photography business is such a competitive, expensive and wasteful industry and Zoey Heath, the owner of Arts and Craft Photography, wanted a change. I feel that competition and the wasteful consumerism (the equipment frenzy attitude) of the photography industry stifles creativity and discourages artistic collaboration. I want a business that focuses not only on artistic collaboration between me and my associate photographers, but also amoung others within the community.
We are not a corporation and nor do we want to be. All our products are custom made for each of our clients and are provided by Canadian green businesses (many of them locals within Waterloo region). There is no assembly line element to our business. We shoot, edit and craft according to the person behind the lens, not a business model.
We are still working on different ways to start fostering community involvement and promotion and we welcome any ideas on how to better do this! So if you have any ideas, green solutions or run a fantastic local business, please contact us and we can start talking about it.
In terms of our blog here, we want to use this as a place not only where people can get a glimpse into some of the weddings and portraits that we have photographed, but also as a place for us to post food experiments, artistic inspiration, plants we are growing and some of the art projects we are working on.
